Our savings can help others!

During the next few weeks I will be posting some of my shopping/saving goals and ideas for 2011!  I hope you are inspired to do a few of them.  Not only will they hopefully make a difference in your life, they can help others as well.  I'm sure that most of you are "helping" someone in need this Christmas.  You may be supporting a family financially, buying a few gifts for a child, or just donating items to a food bank, all of which are wonderful ways to help others.
If you have been couponing for a while, or possibly just reading this blog or any other shopping/savings blogs, you have probably picked up a few cheap or free items that you are not going to use!  I do this year round, pick up free travel size items, or even free full size items, that may not be the brand that I prefer of lotions, toothpastes, etc. Now is the perfect time to clean out your stockpile shelves and give those items to someone who could truly use them.  If you are supporting a family, grab a box and fill it with the extra cleaning products, air fresheners, and candles that are taking up lots of space.  My Sunday school class is providing Christmas to a little boy and his mom.  I made a gift basket full of lotions, deodorants, shampoos, tissues, soaps, etc. for the mother.  What a great way to make her feel  pampered and a great way to clear my stockpile shelves!
Please keep this in mind for next year, pick up free items during your shopping trips.  When it's time to help others, make them feel special without spending a dime!  It's fun to find the freebies and rewarding to know that you are helping others.

Let's remember that Christmas is not about our wants, it's not even about us for that matter.  It's about Christ that was born to save us all from our sins.  Let others see Christ in you this Christmas!
