Chicken & Ranch Deal at Target

Buy Tyson frozen chicken and get Ranch FREE!!!! - No coupons required - but could be a better deal with coupons.

So there are lots of inclusions on the Buy Tyson frozen Chicken and get a free Hidden Vallen Ranch Dressing Deal, including Any’tizers. All the coupons I can find are good for any “Bagged” Any’tizers, but there is also a pretty good deal with no coupons needed at all.

There was one variety of the boxed Any’tizers I found included– The Hot ‘n Spicy 11 oz Chicken Wings, that prompted the free dressing. I am pretty sure this is the only variety of the boxed snacks included, as I did scan quite few to be sure. But for $2.54, using no coupons, I got Chicken Wings and Hidden Valley Spicy Ranch dressing and my hubby was very happy.

You can also pretty much get any Hidden Valley Ranch you choose for free, including the higher priced Organic. My deal worked just fine at the register too, and prompted for the dressing without a hiccup. There’s plenty of the larger, higher priced, bagged Tyson Any’tizers too that you can use a coupon on. Most are priced around $6.99. Here’s a list of the Any’tizers coupons I could find:

-$1/1 Tyson Any’tizers Snacks, any bag – 08-15-10 SS

-$1/1 Tyson Any’tizers Snacks, any bag – 07-25-10 SS

-$1/1 Tyson Any’tizers Bag of Wings – 07-25-10 SS

(thanks http://www.totallytarget.com/)

Oh Christmas Tree....

Ok, so it's almost September.  Are you ready for Christmas?  I am challenging myself to make Christmas more enjoyable this year.  How, you ask?  Well, to begin with  - I am going to start shopping earlier than usual and hopefully, I will be done by Christmas eve...  I also promise to spend less money!  Here are a few tips that may help take some of the stress out of your holiday season.  Please leave a comment if you have other suggestions.

1. Start Saving NOW

This is one of the more obvious hints. Every penny you can put away between now and December is one less charge on the credit card. For example, if you are paid twice a month, between now and December 25th, there are about 9 pay checks. If you put away $20 a pay check, that is $220. If you put away $50 a check, that is $550! It can add up really quickly. Even something as simple as you and your spouse throwing all your loose change in a bowl to cash in when it gets full can add up really quickly. And remember, Coin-Star machines now will allow you to cash in your change for free if you pick an Amazon Gift Card as your form of payment.

2. Write Your Gift-list ASAP

If you don’t know what you are looking for, then you won’t know to start watching for it to go on sale. Take the time to write out all the people you need to buy for, then think about what they would want/need. Lots of times loved ones will mention something through out the year in passing. Make note of it and then start watching for it to go on sale or clearance.

3. Start Your Shopping

This one is pretty obvious, too. Up-coming clearance sales are a bargain-hunters dream for Holiday shopping. Start watching for school supplies to go on sale or clearance the closer we get to the school year starting. Markers, crayons, pencil cases, back-packs, etc all make great stocking stuffers. And remember when you are out looking for clearance toys, now is a great time to pick something up for the Holiday toy drives in your area. If you know that you are going to buy gift cards for those hard to buy for family members, try to buy 1 or 2 gift cards a month so that you don't have to spend it all at one time.

4. Gearing Up For On-line Sales

Just because it is a "Black Friday in July" sale, doesn't mean that will be the lowest price of the season on that item. Be very careful about falling for the marketing gimmicks that stores will use to boost sales in the summer months. Comparison shop. Go to other store's websites to see if that really is that much off.

Have a price you will pay and a date you need it by, and stick to it. If you want to buy your mom a Kodak camera, and you want to spend $100 for it, then keep looking until it hits that price. As long as it is a reasonable price, it will get there eventually. This will help keep you from spending too much because you go for it the first time you see a lower price. If you see the item sitting at one price for a long time, then maybe you set your price too low, and adjust. Setting your price will help you budget your money for the holidays, too.

Check deal sites EARLY and OFTEN! In the past, sites like amazon were very predictable with their sales, but with in the last year they haven't been. The solution? Check CONSTANTLY for what you are looking for. There are also tools you can use to find the best deals on Amazon. Amazon Deal Finding Tools will compile for you all the best % off deals on Amazon every time you search. This is especially helpful for trying to find ideas for people you don't know what to buy for. If specific items you are looking for do not show up, then search for them individually.

5. Write Your Menu NOW

Food is a huge part of the holidays. Just like taking the time to write out your gift list, taking time out to plan your menu for holiday meals will allow you to start watching for those items to go on sale. Be specific. If your family loves Pepperidge Farm Stuffing, then write that down and watch for it. Don't just include Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, either. Include breakfast or brunch Christmas morning, cookies that you need to leave for Santa, a dish for the church pot luck, anything that you have attended in the past, include. If you end up not needing it the day you planned, you can always use it later. The more non perishables that you can stock up for now for pennies on the dollar, the less money you will have to spend closer to the holidays when money is tighter.

6. Collect Coupons

Once you have your list, start contacting companies and asking for coupons for those items. I usually will e-mail them with a compliment, and then ask to be included on their mailing list.

Don't forget to start trading for coupons you need, too. Flour, sugar, condiments, aluminum foil, paper plates, napkins, stuffing, condensed milk, chocolate chips, etc. all commonly put out coupons for their products. If you know you will need them, start getting them now.

7. Cooking & Baking

So many people are surprised to learn that butter, cookie dough and other holiday favorites are freezable! When you find a good deal now, why wait until the last minute to pay for it? By stocking up and preparing now, you will have extra money to spend on something or someone during the holidays!

Items that freeze well include:
Cookie Dough

Pie Crusts

Butter

Cream Cheese

Cheese (blocks, slices, and shredded)

Milk

Yogurt

Eggs - crack and scramble them and put in ice cube trays (these are only good to bake with then)

Chopped Onions - for cooking

You can also store flour and sugar in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and bug-free until you need to use them.

8. Broaden Your Shopping Options

Why limit your shopping to retail stores and online merchants? Try shopping for items at garage sales, thrift stores, and other secondary markets. Many times you can find brand new items with the tags still on for pennies on the dollar. Have a collector on your list? Secondary markets are PERFECT for the collector! Find them that perfect piece of china or figurine that they have wanted to add to their collection. Secondary Markets are a treasure hunt, just waiting to happen!

9. Stock-pile Gift Baskets/Stocking Stuffers

This is one of my favorite things to do around the holidays!! Many people can use and appreciate more practical gifts! When there is only so much money to spare, buying a video game rather than giving a huge stockpile basket full of absolute necessities seems silly. Yet we do not want to take all the fun out of opening presents. Get creative!! Maybe even wrap each item to make it fun! Stocking stuffers are also a great place to tuck away practical gifts. Items such as chap stick, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, and shampoo and soaps are great choices mixed with sweet freebies you find throughout the year.

Piggly Wiggly!

I have not shopped at Piggly Wiggly very often.  But, I think I will start.  I email their corporate office to get a heads up on their coupon policy.  I was advised that both Danville locations (Nor Dan and 58E) have the same policy on BOGO items.  Each rings up half price.  Corporate also said that you can use a manufacturer coupon and a Piggly Wiggly coupon together!!!  Visit Piggly Wiggly's coupon site to sign up for email newsletters/coupons, etc.

Consigment Sale Shopping!!!

Danville already has a few great consignment shops!  We will also get to experience a new trend in consigning this fall.  Danville Kids Consignment Sale will take place from September 16-19 at 335 Mt. Cross Road (below Leggett Town & Country and beside CarQuest).

Here are a few tips to shopping a consignment sale!  (Thanks to SouthernSavers for the article)

If you are a newbie to the world of shopping consignment sales it can be very overwhelming. Thousands of garments, toys, books and shoes (not to mention equipment) overflowing from gyms and expo halls. Many times there isn’t room to even turn around, you just have to keep going forward!

How do you figure out what to buy and still leave with your sanity? How do you not over buy? It is a fine art of thinking quickly before someone else takes that hand smocked dress, and not leaving with 14 pairs of pants all the wrong sizes for your kids. I used to help run a non-profit sale in our area and here are the top things I learned from watching others:

•Have time to spare. Slow down and really look, not just fly through the racks. Since there typically aren’t large amounts of one item, there are a lot of items to choose from.

•Wear the right shoes. Simple but often overlooked.

•Know what you need. Go through your kids drawers the day before make a detailed list, also put clothing and shoe sizes on your list. I’ve seen some shoppers write this on their hands since your arms will filled with items.

•Measuring your children is often better than knowing sizes. A Gap size 6 isn’t the same as a Gymboree 6 etc. I take a cheap cloth measuring tape for each child in my purse with painters tape marking dress length, waist, foot size, and pant length. You won’t need to pull it out for every garment but it will be there if needed as a reference (your kids will probably enjoy helping you make it too).

•Go early!! If the sale starts at 7 am people line up at 6 am. Really they do. The best equipment and clothing goes first. Often the best quality is priced the same as some of the worst, so the first folks in the door not only get great condition items, but they get great deals!

•Take a laundry basket or rolling basket. You will not be able to carry everything in your arms. If you don’t have a basket with wheels loop a belt around the handle of a regular basket and pull it behind you. (I know it sounds funny but you won’t be the only one doing it).

•Be okay with lines. Just go prepared for a wait. Wait to get in and to check out. There are great deals but most of the times consignment sales have way more shoppers than volunteers so be patient and kind.

Thanks SouthernSavers!!!

I have several favorite items that I buy at Aldi.  I have learned that these items are sometimes much cheaper at Aldi than other stores.  I will give you my list.  Please comment on this post as let us all know what items you have found to be just as good as national brands!

My favs:
Canned mushrooms (I think they are .50 a can, better than 1.00 at Food Lion)
Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken soups ( great for casseroles - .50 a can!)
Frozen Chicken Nuggets
Seasonal Produce
Packets of gravy mix (very cheap compared to other stores)

Let me know your favorites and help us all save at ALDI!!!

Pampers - Gifts to Grow Program

If you have a little one in Pampers or possibly getting ready to put a newborn in Pampers you need to sign up with the Pampers Gifts to Grow Program.  Each pack of diapers or wipes you buy has a special "code" on the inside of the wrapper.  You enter your code to collect points to redeem in their rewards catalog.  I have been participating for over 4 years and have scored everything from free diapers to free photo prints!  Sometimes Pampers will release generic codes that can be used by everyone.  Here is a 5 point code:

I will post more codes as they are available!

Need Batteries?

Target has Everready batteries on a HUGE price cut!
These will be likely be somewhat hard to find in stock since it is such a big discount, but there is a large $8 price cut on Eveready 48 pack AA Batteries. They are marked down to $6 (from $14.99) and the price cut is set to go until 9/18. Even without a coupon it makes it around 12.5 cents a battery. Let me know if you find these in stock!

Toys R Us 2 Day Sale

Toys R Us is having a 2 day sale, check out the flyer HERE.  They also have lots of clearance items right now!  Everything from summer water toys to electronics!  You may want to stop by to see what bargains you can find!

Do you shop at CVS?

If not, you are missing out on great deals!!!  Learning to "CVS" can be tricky, but once you learn the ropes, its so much fun!!!  Beginning this Sunday is a great way to start, a FREE bottle of Listerine!  Listerine Zero will be on sale for 3.99.  Print this coupon to save 2.00.  So you will pay 1.99.  You will get 2.00 in ECB (Extra Care Bucks) printed on your receipt.

You need to have a CVS card prior to making the purchase.
Extra Care Bucks (ECB) are just like having a gift card to CVS, you can use them on almost anything in the store!
I always save my ECB to buy something else that I can get ECB for.  That way, I am not paying for the item and I am getting more ECB!  Its a little difficult to fiure out, but well worth the efforts.  CVS also limits the items you can buy and receive ECB.  Most limits are 1 item per card.

If you do not have a CVS card, do not put your email address on the sign up form.  You can get $4.00 ECB when you register your CVS card online!  You can use the 4.00 to buy something in the store that will score you even more ECB!!!

I hope I have not confused you!!!  I will post more about CVS in the future!

Target Coupons

Target.com has a section at the bottom of the home page called "coupons"!  The coupons found here are for all types of items from clothing to frozen foods.  The beauty of a target coupon is - it can be "stacked"with a manufacturer coupon!!!  Which only means, more savings for you.  New coupons are added randomly.  I will begin referring to these coupons often.  Using Target coupons along with a manufacturer coupon will land you a lot of FREE or very cheap items!!!
Don't over look the coupons for $/$ on clothing or shoe coupons.  I got a cute pair of denim capris last week for 1.98!  The coupons can be used on clearance items!
