Pancakes Anyone???

I am determined to save money and time at our house!  I have read about making pancakes and freezing them for a cheap and quick breakfast.  Well, I tried it and it works great!!!!  I made the pancakes as usual and put them in the freezer on wax paper for a few minutes then placed them in a freezer bag.  Freezing them individually first, will keep them from sticking together in the bag.  To prepare, preheat oven to 400 degrees and heat pancakes for 4-5 minutes!!!  Give it a try!!

Do you "Freezer Cook"?

Here is a great way to save time and money in the kitchen.  I challenge you to give it a try!
The concept - Meals that are cooked ahead and frozen, so dinner prep is fast and easy!  Keep in mind that there are no right or wrong ways to "Freezer Cook".  You can google "freezer cooking" or "freezer meals" for thousands of recipes and ideas. It's all based around utilizing food that you have purchased on sale, so your expenses are less  A few suggestions for freezer cooking:

1. Freeze raw chicken breast with marinade in freezer bags, take out as much air as possible.  Put in in refrigerator to thaw the morning that you want to cook them.  Remove from bag, place in casserole dish and bake as usual.
2. Cook larger batches of food and freeze part of it.  I do this alot with spaghetti sauce, chili beans, and manwich.  It makes for very quick dinners durng the week.
3. If you have freezer space, you can put casseroles together and freeze, remove from freezer the morning you want to have it for dinner and cook as usual.
4. If I find large packs of hamburger on sale, I will brown all of it at one time and divide it up into 1 lb. portions.  Freeze them and I have browned hamburger for tacos, or other foods that call for hamburger.  You just throw it back in the skillet to heat up and add it to your favorite dishes.

You will be amazed at how much time this will save you.  I find that we are able to eat at home more often instead of picking up fast food, since the prep is easy and fast!

If you are willing to take the "Freezer Food" challenge - leave a comment below.  Remember, you will save the most, by buying your meat when its on sale!  My motto is - We eat what is on sale!!!  It's a no brainer!

Great Deal on McCormick Cinnamon and Others at Food Lion

(I have not confirmed this deal, but rumor has it...)

Food Lion has a Catalina (coupons that print at the register) deal going until 10/31.
Buy 2 McCormick Spices or Extracts and get $1.50 off your next order, buy 3 or more and get $3 off your next order.

I have heard a few different prices for cinnamon - some locations have it for .89 for a 1 oz. bottle and others have it priced at 1.06.  Either way, its a great deal to get you ready for holiday cooking!

Please keep in mind that this deal is for spices and extracts, I am not sure that it works on the packaged seasoning mixes and it does not work on the GrillMates.

Let me know if this works for if it does not work for you!

UPDATE- I got 3 bottles (1oz.) of cinnamon for 1.06 each.  The 3.00 off your next order catalina did print.  So, 3 jars of cinnamon for .18!!!
Great Deal!

Free Degree Deodorant

Here is a coupon for 1.00 off Degree deodorant (any size).  Most travel sections have Degree for 1.00 or less.  Check Wal-Mart or Target!  You do have to give your name and email address to print the coupon.  I opened a yahoo! email address, just for this reason.  When I have to sign up for things, I always use my "junk" email.  So, I am not overwhelmed in my regular email box.

Free Gain Dish Liquid

There is a 1.00 off Gain Dish Liquid coupon in todays (10/10).  You can use this coupon to get a free bottle at Wal-Mart and possibly other stores.  Wal-Mart should have the small bottle for .99.

No Coupons???

Several people have told me that they did not receive all of their coupons today.  The Danville Register should have 3 inserts today (SmartSource, RedPlum, and Protor & Gamble).  If you buy your Sunday paper from a box or a store, always flip through to make sure the inserts are in the paper you are buying.  You may also want to pick up a Greensboro News & Record.  They have the same inserts, with a little variation.  If you are going to buy 2 papers anyway, I would recommend getting one of each.

Menu Planning

Ok, so today I am cleaning out my pantry.  I am throwing away products that are out of date and sitting out items to donate to the food bank.  After I get it organized, I will take inventory of the items left and plan my menu for the next week or so.  I don't create a detailed menu, I basically make a list of dishes that I have all the ingredients to prepare.  I also make a grocery list of items to pick up that will make additional dishes.  For instance, if I have pasta and pasta sauce, but I do not have hamburger, I put hamburger on the grocery list.  Now, I only have to buy 1 more item to make that dish!  If you have a few minutes today, take a look in your pantry and freezer and see what you have.  You will save money by only picking up what you need!!!!  Give it a try.

How much do I love CVS???

Well, let me show you the ways!!!  First of all, CVS has a rewards program called ExtraCare Bucks (ECB).  Basically, when you purchase specific items you get ECB.  ECB are similar to a gift card to CVS.  They print out at the bottom of your receipt, and you redeem them on your next transaction!!!  So, to truly save at CVS you "roll" your ECB.  Which means, you continue to buy items with your ECB that will give you more ECB.  Its a little confusing, but well worth your time to figure it out.  I will write more articles about CVS deals in the future.
If you do not have an ExtraCare card - get one today!!!  Do not fill out your email address on the application.  When you get home, go to cvs.com and enter your email address.  They will email you 4.00 in ECB (without spending a dime!!!).  Everytime you go to CVS, make sure you scan your card at the coupon center (a tall skinny machine with a computer screen) - it will print out coupons!!!!

Ok, so yesterday, I was in CVS.  I scanned my card and got at least 5 coupons!!!  I received a 5.00 off a 25.00 purchase coupon (which is 25.00 before coupons!!! - make sure you hand the cashier the 5.00 off 25.00 coupon before your other coupons).    I also received a 5.00 off any Halloween costumes, decor, or accesories!

So, today - I made my SUPER trips to CVS!
Here is a picture of what I got:
1 box of Halloween tattoos 3.99
1 box of Halloween glow sticks  3.99
1 pack of "night time" underwear! 10.79
1 Schick Hydro razor 8.97
1 Schick Shave Gel 3.99
1 Revlon Colorstay make up 13.49
2 little packs of Halloween  .99 ea
1 little pumpkin cup .99

I had some ECB already, so that is what made my deals so good -
I paid a total of 6.31 and received 5.00 in ECB back!!!!

( I found a coupon on the razor to get a free shave gel with razor purchase, so this helped me get to my 25.00 total, so I could save 5.00!)

I did two transactions - D. has a CVS card and he got the same 5.00 off coupons yesterday too!
